Catholics loved plaid before it was popular

The other day a lady stopped me in the grocery store and asked, “Where did you get your skirt? I’ve been looking for one like it. Plaid is so in right now!” I was wearing a black blouse layered with a mustard colored 3/4 length sleeve cardigan and a tea-length black/white/grey plaid skirt.

I told her I found my skirt at JC Penny’s…years ago…in 2008, I think. It’s one of 5 plaid skirts I own…(yes 5!) and I wear them all_the_time, especially in the fall/winter/early spring. Can you tell I really like plaid? 🙂 (As an aside, I wear skirts almost exclusively…so all of my skirts get a lot of wear.)

It got me thinking though…styles and fashions come and go, but dressing in a classy feminine modest way is always – always! – in style. Most Catholic ladies I know have several plaid skirts in their wardrobe. They are extremely versatile and feminine, and – as a bonus! – now they’re all “the rage”. So yes – Catholics have loved plaid since before it was popular!

Here are a few examples of some fabulous plaid outfits, perfect for cooler weather:

Wear a tea-length plaid skirt with a solid color blouse and coordinating flats or boots.

Wear a chunky sweater or layer a tank top with a cardigan, knee-high boots, and throw in a fun scarf (make sure necklines are high enough; this particular outfit might need some help in that area, but in general you get the outfit idea from the picture). I would recommend flat boots though, rather than the “kill yourself” heels. 🙂

Here is an example of incorporating a plaid blouse into your outfit. Let the plaid collar peek out, and wear some jewelry and put your hair up in a braid or bun. I’d add a scarf, myself.

It is possible to dress modestly and yet fashionably and feminine. Hopefully these outfits have inspired you to work some plaid into your Autumn/Winter wardrobe!
