Why I’m Boycotting Target

Okay, so after 4 children (by the way, #5 is on the way! :), Baritone and I totally have figured out where to buy the best diapers.  Best as in they 1) don’t leak even when used overnight, 2) they don’t give our children skin rashes, and 3) they aren’t crazy expensive. We have three children in diapers right now, so you can believe me when I say we go through a lot of diapers and wipes and cream.

So where to find these magical (sometimes I feel like they are :)) diapers? Target. They’re Target’s own brand of diapers. And…I can’t buy them anymore. As much as it hurts, I will take my money and business elsewhere in my new search for the best diaper. Why?

No doubt you’ve heard about Target’s recent policy change allowing men and women to use each other’s bathrooms and changing rooms. Here is a link to the actual article (the header image I used above is from the article itself). Here is the most relevant section:

In our stores, we demonstrate our commitment to an inclusive experience in many ways. Most relevant for the conversations currently underway, we welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.

Okay, obviously there are many problems with this. This post could get rather long if I were to dive into all the issues around the collapse of our society, the attacks on traditional marriage and the family, the LGBT movement, evil disguising itself as good (and no one being able to speak out against the evil in the name of political correctness), etc. However, in this post I’m just going to focus on one aspect of this new policy of Target – safety.

This move by Target is a direct attack on the safety of women and children. With this policy, Target is telling me it does not value my safety or the safety of my children in it’s stores. Okay yes, a man was always able to walk into a women’s bathroom at Target (it’s not like they have security permanently stationed outside the doors to prevent that), but if that were to happen security could be called and the situation handled right away before it escalated into something bad. Now? Not so much. If my sister was in the women’s bathroom or women’s changing room at Target and I, waiting outside for her, saw a group of 5 guys who suddenly decided they “felt like women today” walk in, it wouldn’t matter whether I called for a manager or security because guess what? Target wouldn’t do a thing. They value inclusiveness over safety, common sense, and decency. Apparently, Target is willing to offend the vast majority of Americans (probably their largest customer base – families with children) to appease the 0.2 – 0.3 percent of the population who identify as transgendered.

Obviously (and this is apparently not obvious to Target – or maybe it is, and they don’t care – but it is obvious to the more than 1.1 million who have signed the pledge to boycott Target) there are men out there who will pretend to be transgendered in order to use this policy as an excuse to prey on women and children.

Target has had some serious issues for awhile now. This latest nonsense though means that we can no longer count on Target to be a place to shop that is relatively safe from sexual predators. Obviously no store is totally safe, but opening the women’s bathroom and changing room up to for any man who wants to walk in is like putting a “gun-free-zone” sign on your front lawn and hoping your house doesn’t get broken into.

I ask you to consider (if you haven’t yet already) joining and signing the pledge to boycott Target.
