Favorite Holiday Treats

To go along with my previous post, I thought I’d share a few of our family’s favorite holiday treats. These are ones we like to enjoy on a cold evening or while decorating the tree!

Frosted Cranberries are not only pretty to look at, they’re hard to stop gobbling up! The first few are pretty tart on the tongue, but watch out because you might find yourself eating the whole bowl.

Hot Apple Cider is a quick and easy (and non-alcoholic!) drink the whole family can enjoy, and it can be ready in as little as 5 minutes. All you need is a large pot, a jug of Mott’s Apple Juice, and a few sticks of cinnamon and a few whole cloves. Pour the juice in the pot, set it on the stove, and put in 2-3 sticks of cinnamon and 3-4 cloves. Obviously the more cinnamon and cloves you add (and the longer you leave it on the stove) the spicier it will get, but this is about how we like ours. Heat to steaming, and then pour and enjoy. (You might need to let it cool a little before giving it to younger children).

Egg Nog Coffee is a festive way to enjoy your morning cuppa’ Joe! There are plenty of these recipes floating around the internet, but what I do is fairly simple and still tastes awesome. We have an espresso machine, and that’s what I use for my morning coffee. I just substitute a couple tablespoons of egg nog for a couple tablespoons of milk in my cappuccino. If you brew coffee by the pot, you could also do the same with the creamer of your choice (instead of all half n’ half, for example, do 60% of your usual serving of half n’ half and then for the rest use egg nog). Add a sprinkling of nutmeg on top, and mmm…let it be Christmas every day of the year, haha. 🙂

What are some of your favorite holiday treats?
