Gloria – In Die Resurrectionis Domini Nostri Jesu Christi

I composed the following Gloria specifically for the Easter Vigil (on the day of the resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ). The setting is for SATB + Organ with optional Timpani at in gloria Dei Patris.

Interpretation Notes

The Priest’s intonation is from the Lux et Origo setting of the Gloria, but I have placed it lower than is typical, as a solemn transition to the Glory of Easter Sunday. The choir’s entrance should be powerful, sudden, and glorious.

Overall, this Gloria can be characterized as sets of homophonic or polyphonic passages, where the organ tends to be louder during the homophonic passages and more subdued within the polyphonic ones.

While I am very pleased with how this composition turned out, I especially like Cum Sancto Spiritu to the end. The timpani–if any–provides a bit of punctuation and energy leading into Dei of gloria Dei Patris. I marked most of Cum Sancto Spiritu marcato, but unfortunately, the computer still renders it legato.

Free PDF is available below, but to fit multiple systems, the pages are legal size.

Update 2023-02-05

I made a voice leading correction between Alto and Bass in measures 31 and 32. The PDF and recording have both been updated.
